Emerging Research on use of Probiotics to Treat Intestinal Infections


Sometimes antibiotics throw off the delicate balance of our gastrointestinal microflora resulting in another kind of infection, Clostridium dificile infection (CDI). CDI affects up to half a million people each year. Typically treated with further rounds of antibiotics, researchers are now looking at how probiotics might rebuild the microflora of the intestinal tract, thereby fighting and treating the Clostridium infection.
