H2PRO Research News: Probiotics Improve Immune Health in Elderly

Older couple dances cheek- to-cheek.

The immune system begins to decline as we age, making the elderly more susceptible to autoimmune disease and higher risk of infection or cancer. In 2050 the population of elderly, age 65+, will be roughly 83 million people in the U.S.  It is an important growing market, as well as a population demographic since our needs change as we age.

Dupont/Danisco has just published a meta-analysis of 4 studies that looked at the ability of Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis HN019™ to stimulate cellular level immune activity in healthy older adults.  They found that the probiotic strain stimulated the immune systems natural killer cell activity and phagocytic activity.

This is great news for aging adults concerned with their health!
