H2PRO Research: Allergies and your Gut

Allergy rates in children are going up. Hospital visits for allergic responses to food are increasing. Could our gut flora play a role in allergic response?

Researchers are looking at how different strains of probiotics may help modify allergic response in mice. We often hear about Lactobacilllus in the news but this mouse study looked at a Bifidobacterium strain and an Enterococcus strain to observe how each might decrease allergic responses to food. The study, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that dose was an important factor. As research moves forward probiotics researchers will look at the human responses to such strains and how they may modify our immune system responses.
